Sedation dentistry can make you feel less anxious about getting the care you need.
Don’t Let Dental Anxiety Stand in Your Way
Dental anxiety or apprehension about lengthy procedures can lead to avoidance. And avoidance then creates a snowball effect. The sooner you get the care you need, the better the outcome will be.
If you need help feeling at ease, sedation dentistry might be an option to make things more comfortable. At South Rock Dental, we offer oral sedation and will soon also offer nitrous oxide sedation in South Surrey, BC.
- People with dental anxiety or a dental phobia
- Those undergoing a long and/or extensive procedure like getting wisdom teeth removed
- Patients with a severe gag reflex
- People with a condition that makes it difficult to safely receive dental care
- Young children who need lengthy treatment
Nitrous Oxide Sedation
Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, is a mild form of sedation that works quickly and wears off almost just as fast. It has very few side effects, and you can go right back to work or school after your appointment.
You’ll breathe in a mix of nitrous oxide and oxygen through a mask over your nose. You’ll be awake and able to respond to directions during your procedure, but you’ll feel calm and euphoric.
Oral Conscious Sedation
Oral dental sedation can be mild to moderate and involves taking a prescribed sedative by mouth 30 minutes to an hour before your appointment. The specific medication will depend on a variety of factors, including your health history.
Once the medication starts working, you’ll feel comfortable and relaxed, but you’ll still be conscious and aware of your surroundings. You will need an adult to come with you to your appointment and drive you home.
Benefits Of
Sedation Dentistry
Reduces Anxiety
Sedation dentistry is an effective way to alleviate mild to severe anxiety, whether caused by a general fear of the dentist or apprehension about a specific treatment.
Keeps You Comfortable
Both laughing gas and oral sedation can make you feel more at ease and relaxed. This helps you receive the dental care you need and get your oral health back on track.
May Make Treatment Safer
If a health condition or issue interferes with getting dental treatment, sedation could allow your dentist to more safely perform procedures and finish them in fewer visits.
