Custom Crowns and Bridges

At South Rock Dental, we use digital scanning and advanced treatment planning software to design natural-looking, custom dental crowns and fixed bridges. Our goal is to strike the ideal balance between strength and aesthetics.

Whether protecting a decayed or damaged tooth, covering cosmetic imperfections or replacing missing teeth, bridgework and crowns are great options. The restorations will help you chew and smile with confidence again.

Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is an excellent tooth replacement option. The restoration is designed to bridge the gap between one or more missing teeth. A bridge is sturdier, more comfortable and has better aesthetics than a removable denture.

Traditional fixed bridges consist of two crowns that support a prosthetic tooth, called a pontic, in the center. The crowns are placed on the teeth on either side of the empty space, referred to as the abutment teeth. If you have several missing teeth, Dr. Chohan can adjust the number of crowns and abutment teeth.

Dental Crowns

A dental crown is a restoration that fits over your entire tooth to the gumline. It can cover cosmetic defects or protect and strengthen a severely damaged or decayed tooth that doesn’t have enough structure to support a filling. We also commonly use a dental crown to restore a tooth after a root canal.

Our all-porcelain crowns are the most popular choice. However, Dr. Sundeep Chohan, General Dentist, offers a variety of materials to choose from. She’ll help you decide on the best option for your needs.

Getting a Dental Crown or Bridgework

01

Come in for an Exam

Dr. Chohan will assess your diagnostic records and perform an exam. This will allow her to make personalized treatment recommendations. She’ll also go over your bridge or dental crown cost, the timeline and what to expect at every step.

02

Have Your Teeth Prepped and Get Digital Scans

After numbing you, Dr. Chohan will shape your tooth/abutment teeth to fit under the dental crowns. Once your tooth has been prepped, we’ll take digital scans with our iTero® Element 5D scanner. This creates a 3D model of your mouth that will be used to fabricate your custom crown or bridge.

03

Wear a Temporary

Dr. Chohan will place a temporary crown or bridge to protect your teeth. In the meantime, the lab will mill your permanent restoration. It will then be hand glazed to reflect light like natural enamel.

04

Have Your Permanent Crown or Bridge Placed

At your second appointment, Dr. Chohan will gently remove your temporary restoration. She’ll clean your teeth and place your dental crown or bridgework. After taking a digital x-ray to ensure it fits correctly, she’ll cement it in place. Finally, she’ll make any necessary adjustments for optimal aesthetics and comfort.

Why would I need a dental crown?

A filling requires a certain amount of tooth structure to hold it in place. If you’re missing a lot of natural structure, a dental crown offers the coverage you may need. A crown covers the entire tooth to the gumline, restoring its function, appearance and strength. We may recommend a dental crown to:

  • Protect a tooth after root canal treatment
  • Protect a weak tooth from breaking
  • Restore a broken tooth
  • Hold together the pieces of a cracked or fractured tooth
  • Restore a worn down tooth
  • Protect a tooth with severe decay or a large filling that doesn’t have much natural structure left
  • Attach to a dental implant
  • Cover a misshapen or discolored tooth
  • Make cosmetic adjustments like changing the size of a tooth or closing a small gap

Why would I need a dental bridge?

A dental bridge is used to replace one or more missing teeth. Bridges are more comfortable and convenient than removable partial dentures and more affordable than dental implants. Getting a bridge preserves your bite by preventing your remaining teeth from shifting. It also helps you chew, speak and smile like you would with natural teeth.

How long do dental crowns and bridges last?

Dental crowns last about 15 years, while dental bridges average about 10 years. However, with proper care, you can extend the lifespan of both crowns and bridges.
