Cosmetic dental bonding is a simple, affordable way to fix minor smile imperfections.
A Seamless Stand-In for Natural Enamel
Cosmetic dental bonding involves applying a tooth-colored composite resin to cover mild defects like discoloration, gum recession and small gaps. It can also fill in missing tooth structure, such as in the case of a chipped tooth.
The resin bonds with your natural enamel and once polished, it’s undetectable. While bonding won’t last as long as a crown or a veneer, it’s a more affordable, non-invasive option for patients who aren’t ready for a permanent restoration.
The Dental Bonding Process
01
Come in for a Visit
When you visit our South Surrey dentist for cosmetic dental bonding, we’ll start off by taking a wellness scan with our iTero® system. Then, Dr. Sundeep Chohan, General Dentist, will look at your diagnostic records and perform an exam to ensure your concerns are cosmetic and not signs of an oral health problem.

02
Relax While We Bond
You’ll get settled into a private treatment room with wireless headphones and a TV show. Dr. Chohan will paint a solution onto the treatment areas to open the tooth’s pores (teeth have pores too!). Then, she’ll apply a layer of composite resin material color-matched to your enamel. As the resin enters your tooth’s pores, it creates a micro-mechanical bond with your enamel.
03
We’ll Cure, Shape and Polish
Dr. Chohan will use a curing light to harden the composite resin. Then, she’ll add another layer of material and cure it again, repeating the process until she gets the right thickness. Finally, she’ll shape and polish the resin, so it blends in with the rest of your tooth.

04
Smile With Confidence
With your dental bonding procedure finished, you can smile with confidence. The bonding material can last for years before needing to be touched up or replaced. For maximum longevity, simply practice good oral hygiene and keep up with your dental exams and cleanings.

What is dental bonding?
Dental bonding is when we use a tooth-colored composite resin to hide minor cosmetic tooth defects or replace missing tooth structure. Our South Rock dentist layers the resin over the affected area until she gets the thickness just right. She then hardens, shapes and polishes it to look like natural enamel.
What can cosmetic dental bonding fix?
Patients visit us for cosmetic dental bonding in South Surrey to fix:
- Chips
- Missing tooth structure from small cavities
- Small gaps
- Discoloration
- Worn enamel
- Surface defects like pitting
Who can benefit from cosmetic dental bonding?
Cosmetic dental bonding masks minor cosmetic smile concerns and can help restore missing tooth structure. Cosmetic bonding is an option for patients whose teeth are not severely decayed. If there’s significant damage, a dental crown may be a better option.
We don’t have to remove natural tooth structure to perform dental bonding, making it a great option for younger patients or teens who have to wait for their smile to fully mature before getting a permanent restoration. It’s also a good choice for anyone who is not ready to commit to a permanent option like veneers.
Does cosmetic bonding hurt?
No, cosmetic dental bonding doesn’t hurt. Since tooth structure isn’t removed, there are no needles or drilling involved!
