You won’t just leave with a brighter, cleaner smile – you’ll also leave with expert guidance on how to keep your teeth and gums healthy.
Gentle but Thorough Cleanings and Exams
Regular dental cleanings and exams are the real MVPs when it comes to the prevention and early detection of dental disease. Because your oral health impacts your overall health – both physical and mental! – keeping up with these key wellness visits is incredibly important. To make routine care something to look forward to, we’ve taken it out of the stereotypical cold, clinical office and into a comfortable, modern space.
01
Come On In
We set aside an hour and a half for your first cleaning and exam. While our team keeps wait times to a minimum, if you get here early, grab a coffee or a water and unwind in our reception area. We’ll make sure we have your new patient forms, and then take you back.
02
Get Digital X-Rays and a Wellness Scan
A team member will take digital x-rays, including a panoramic x-ray, so we can see every tooth in multiple positions. Then, they’ll perform a quick, comfortable wellness scan with our iTero® system to create a 3D model of your mouth.
03
Relax While We Clean Your Teeth
We’ll set you up with noise-canceling headphones so you can catch up on your favorite show in a private treatment room. Your hygienist will use special tools to remove plaque and tartar (hardened plaque) before flossing, cleaning and polishing your teeth. The hygienist will also let you know any areas of your oral hygiene routine that could use a bit of improvement.
04
Have an Exam
Dr. Sundeep Chohan, General Dentist, will introduce herself and look at your x-rays. She’ll go over your wellness scan with you, showing you what she sees right there on the screen. Next, she’ll perform an oral exam, during which she’ll evaluate your teeth, gums and bite, check any fillings or restorations and screen you for signs of oral cancer.
05
Talk With the Dentist
Dr. Chohan will answer your questions and offer personalized recommendations to help you maximize your oral health. If she does diagnose any issues, she’ll make a list of the treatments needed and work with you to sequence them in terms of priority. Finally, you’ll head out with a brighter smile and some fresh oral hygiene goodies.
Benefits Of
Cleanings & Oral Exams
Banishes Plaque
Professional dental cleanings eliminate hardened plaque, also called tartar or calculus, that can’t be removed at home. This reduces your risk of cavities and gingivitis.
Early Detection
Routine dental care helps to detect issues like gum disease, tooth decay and oral cancer in their earliest stages when treatment is easier, more affordable and more likely to be successful.
Personalized Guidance
You’ll get expert recommendations based on your unique concerns and needs to help you level up your homecare routine and maintain smile wellness.
What is a dental cleaning and oral exam?
During your dental cleaning, we use specialized tools and techniques to banish plaque and its even tougher cousin, tartar, from your teeth and gum line. This helps you steer clear of gum disease and cavities. The grand finale? Our hygienist polishes your teeth, eliminating surface stains and creating a shiny, smooth, plaque-repelling surface.
As for the oral exam, Dr. Sundeep Chohan, General Dentist, assesses your teeth, gums, oral tissues, head and neck. When combined with a wellness scan and digital x-rays, this helps her identify tooth decay, damaged or faulty dental restorations, and signs of conditions, such as gum disease and oral cancer.
Are dental cleanings and exams really necessary?
Absolutely! Dental cleanings and exams are the superheroes of preventive care. Cleanings eliminate hardened plaque deposits that you can’t get rid of with regular brushing and flossing. They also give us a chance to evaluate your oral hygiene routine and make personalized recommendations.
Oral exams are crucial for early detection too. Whether cavities, gum disease or oral cancer, the earlier the issue is diagnosed and treated, the easier and more successful treatment is likely to be.
How often do I need a cleaning and exam?
Give your teeth and gums the TLC they deserve by coming in for a professional dental cleaning and exam every six months, or twice a year. Occasionally, more frequent visits could be needed, but Dr. Chohan will let you know.
